Clockwork Ocean in Berlin

From May 8th to 10th, the re: publica took place in Berlin, one of the world's most important conferences on the topics of digital society. Staff from the Institute of Coastal Research and the public relations department from the Helmholtz-Centre Geesthacht were there to present the trailer of the new 360° film Clockwork Ocean in a mini-planetarium and in virtual reality.

The re:publica conference offered a multitude of lectures, discussion sessions and workshops on various topics of the digital society. From virtual reality to social media, digital mobility and robotics to political content everything was represented. In addition, a large number of exhibitors presented themselves at the Berlin Station in Berlin-Kreuzberg. One of these was the Science Year 2016 *17 "Seas and Oceans", an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The HZG presented the trailer of the new 360° film "Eddie Hunt - Expedition Clockwork Ocean". The visitors could either enter the world of coastal research using virtual reality glasses or stand in a mini-planetarium and look around. Numerous interested people came to the booth to inform themselves about the research at the HZG and the technical implementation.

A further highlight of the HZG was the session held by Prof. Dr. Burkard Baschek, head of the division Operational Systems at the Institute of Coastal Research (KO), and Dr. Torsten Fischer, head of the public relations department at the HZG. In the session "Clockwork Ocean – Fundamental Research, VR and Twitter-Trend", they reported on the campaign Clockwork Ocean and the new film, which will premier on July 13th at the Planetarium in Hamburg.
