Small swirrels now so big

Under the leadership of Prof. Burkard Baschek, Director of the Institute of Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, an international team of scientists succeeded in detecting a small ocean eddy for the first time in 2009 from an aircraft, investigating it from a ship directly on site. Two further comprehensive expeditions have since been carried out off the coast of California. The expeditions included experts from seven international institutions.
